Tan Zheng Rui is a Singaporean composer who writes music that prioritises exploring various perspectives of his musical materials. His predilection of interacting with nature and various domains of study, like mathematics, physics, literature, has become his source of deriving ideas. These ideas constantly lead him to ponder and inquire deeper into a certain subject, while drawing relationships back to his music. This approach has transformed his perception of these existing ideas and concepts, and propelled him to deepen his exploration in this realm. Furthermore, his music tends to delve into the idea of physicality where he thinks of music as a human body, which possesses life. He is constantly motivated to craft a sound world personal to him, while using music as a means of creating meaning and expression. He will be pursuing a major in music in the future.

Apart from composition, Zheng Rui has dabbled into other areas other than his expertise. He is a soundpainter and a conductor who has attempted conducting Chinese Orchestra for a few occasions. He explores the interactions between each instrument and enjoys how he can develop and morph sounds. Other than that, he is also a pianist and a yangqin player. He favours performing contemporary classical music and seeks to expand possible musical boundaries on each instrument through experimenting.
